Conservation

Our commitment to conservation

Our aim is inspiring people to celebrate and conserve the natural world.

Through up-close animal encounters, educational exhibits and innovative entertainment, we aim to heighten awareness to the world around us and increase understanding of the plight of animals in the wild.
Our care and research ranges from the UK to across the world, and our parks all adhere to strict standards for the animals under our care — we even have a fund specifically focused on conservation.

Our parks, policies and programmes are overseen by many federal and state laws including The Animal Welfare Act, The Marine Mammal Protection Act and The Endangered Species Act. We operate under the authority of multiple government agencies and are regularly inspected for compliance with federal and state law. The SeaWorld Parks are accredited by all major zoological bodies. SeaWorld Orlando is accredited by the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA). AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums undergo a rigorous review that includes a detailed application as well as a multiple day on-site inspection by a team of experts from around the country. SeaWorld Orlando is also accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and American Humane as are Discovery Cove and Busch Gardens.

Some of our partnerships. We partner with some of the world’s most prominent conservation foundations, allowing us to both broaden our understanding of it and provide access to our facilities and expertise, supporting the incredible work they do.

Our conservation fund

SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund

The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, a non-profit foundation established in 2003, has provided more than $20 million to nearly 1,400 organisations to advance critical research on every continent. A portion of park proceeds goes toward supporting these longstanding conservation commitments.

Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation

Our rescue teams are on call 24/7, 365 days a year, assisting animals that are orphaned, ill, injured or in need of expert care.

Our goal is to successfully rehabilitate animals for return to the wild. The small percentage of animals whose injuries are too debilitating to release, as deemed by the government, are given lifelong care.

Protecting our world

Conserving and caring for wildlife and wild places has been our mission and passion for more than 60 years.

We work with environmental organisations worldwide, ranging from local community projects with organisations like Chester Zoo, to global programmes with OCEARCH.

Supporting Global Research

A unique environment

Our parks provide a unique environment that allows our team, outside researchers and scientists to better understand marine mammals.

This includes the expertise of our team, learned through everyday care of the animals in the parks.

Funding

We provide funding and support to research projects across the world through the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund.

Scientific publications

SeaWorld continues to make meaningful contributions to science through the study of animals in our care. We’ve published hundreds of authored, co-authored and peer-reviewed scientific articles and books.
